A Villainous Halloween Weekend at The Hidden Lair

Halloween weekend was full of dice rolls, strategy, and a bit of villainous mischief at The Hidden Lair in Mt. Zion. Between the Age of Sigmar tournament, Magic: The Gathering’s A Villainous Halloween event, and a Sunday of stomping mechs in BattleTech, the store was alive with the sounds of cheers, laughter, and a few dramatic dice clatters that decided it all.

Age of Sigmar Tournament –

Saturday was all about the Mortal Realms as players brought out their finest armies for our Age of Sigmar tournament. Rows of painted miniatures marched across intricately built tables, each battlefield alive with color, motion, and creative storytelling.

This tournament saw a wide range of forces clash — from the brutish strength of Orruk Warclans to the disciplined brilliance of Stormcast Eternals and the pestilent resilience of Nurgle’s Rotbringers. The tables were as much a showcase of artistic talent as tactical prowess, with hobbyists proudly displaying months (and in some cases, years) of dedication in paint and conversions.

Each round brought nail-biting matchups and shifting momentum. One table might see a Krondspine Incarnate devouring everything in its path, while another showcased a fleet-footed Kharadron airship squadron raining down fire from above.

By the end of the day, friendships were forged, rivalries renewed, and every player walked away with a story to tell. That’s what makes Age of Sigmar tournaments at The Hidden Lair special — not just the victories, but the community that rallies around the game.

Magic: The Gathering – A Villainous Halloween

Halloween night brought its own brand of excitement with our Magic: The Gathering “A Villainous Halloween” event. Tables were filled with players unleashing their inner villains — from sinister planeswalkers to classic dark-themed decks.

The room was filled with creativity — not just in deckbuilding but also in costumes and playmats. From graveyard recursion decks to artifact-heavy builds and burn strategies that made opponents wince, it was a reminder that Magic’s diversity of play styles always brings something new to the table.

Players competed through rounds of Standard and Commander, sharing laughs and spooky snacks between matches. The real “magic” of the night wasn’t just in the gameplay — it was in seeing everyone come together, trading cards, testing brews, and celebrating the season with a little bit of villainy.

If you missed out, don’t worry — our Standard Showdowns and Commander nights continue each week. There’s always a seat at the table for new planeswalkers looking to test their mettle.

BattleTech – Titans Clash in the Inner Sphere

Sunday wrapped up the weekend with the roar of engines and the thunder of autocannons in BattleTech. The tables were covered in hex maps and battle-scarred mechs maneuvering for firing lanes.

From Clan assaults to Inner Sphere defenses, players faced off in skirmishes that showcased both strategy and storytelling. Each movement mattered — a single hex could mean the difference between victory and a mech reduced to smoking wreckage.

Veterans of the game helped newcomers learn advanced tactics, fine-tuning heat management, and movement strategies that define BattleTech’s unique depth. As always, the mix of competitive spirit and camaraderie made for a perfect Sunday event.

The Lair’s BattleTech community continues to grow each week, and the passion for painting and piloting custom mechs is stronger than ever. If you’ve been curious about this tactical wargame, stop by on Sundays and see the action firsthand — there’s always room for another MechWarrior.

The Hidden Lair Community Lives On

Weekends like this remind us why tabletop gaming thrives — it’s the people, the creativity, and the shared stories. Whether you’re a painter, strategist, or collector, The Hidden Lair is the perfect place to roll dice and make memories.
