A week of Chaos, Heroes, and Unexpected Darkness at The Hidden Lair
There are game nights… and then there are Hidden Lair game nights.
This past session brought together a mix of grimdark warfare, superhero clashes, and narrative storytelling—complete with an unexpected twist that none of us planned for.
Warhammer 40,000: Red Corsairs Unleashed
The centerpiece battle of the night saw the Red Corsairs take the field, bolstered by a force of Ultramarines acting as battlefield proxies, clashing against a determined contingent of Inquisitorial Agents.

As expected, the battlefield quickly descended into chaos. The Corsairs brought relentless aggression, pushing hard into enemy lines, while the Inquisition responded with calculated precision and elite operatives. Proxy or not, the Ultramarines added a striking visual presence and tactical flexibility that made for a dynamic and cinematic match.
It was the kind of game that perfectly captures why 40K thrives—big moments, narrative tension, and just enough unpredictability to keep everyone leaning over the table.
Heroclix: A Four-Way Free-for-All
On another table, things were just as intense—but with capes.
A four-player Heroclix match turned into a full-blown brawl, where every player had their moment, and no one was ever truly safe.

These multiplayer formats always bring out the best kind of chaos—unexpected targeting decisions, dramatic comebacks, and the occasional betrayal that everyone remembers long after the game ends.
Marvel Crisis Protocol: Tactical Showdowns
Meanwhile, Marvel Crisis Protocol delivered a more surgical style of conflict. Tight positioning, objective play, and character synergy were on full display as players maneuvered iconic heroes and villains across the battlefield.

Compared to the wild swings of Heroclix, MCP showcased a different flavor of strategy—measured, deliberate, and deeply rewarding for players who thrive on precision.
Narrative Kill Team: Nemesis Claw vs Dark Angels
For those drawn to storytelling, the Narrative Kill Team match between Nemesis Claw and the Dark Angels (Angels of Death) brought the grimdark setting to life in a different way.

Every move felt meaningful. Every loss carried weight.
Narrative play continues to grow at The Hidden Lair, and matches like this are exactly why—players aren’t just rolling dice, they’re telling stories. Rivalries form, grudges deepen, and each game becomes part of something larger.
When the Lights Went Out
And then… the unexpected happened.
A power outage hit mid-session.
For a moment, the store fell into darkness—dice paused mid-roll, players frozen in disbelief. But instead of stopping the night, it became part of the story.
Phones came out. Flashlights flickered on. Laughter followed.
It was one of those moments that reminds you what makes local game stores special. Not just the games—but the community that keeps them going, even when the lights don’t.
Why Nights Like This Matter
From massive 40K battles to superhero skirmishes and narrative campaigns, this was a perfect snapshot of what The Hidden Lair is all about:
- Variety across tabletop systems
- Players who bring passion and creativity
- A community that turns even a blackout into a memorable experience
If you haven’t joined us for a game night yet, you’re missing more than just games—you’re missing moments like these.
We’ll see you at the table.
